Earlier we got in from a Sunday night walk outside. It's getting cold but it's become a nice family tradition for us.

This past week was about making sure that we were healthy and then getting sick. Sadly, because of an insurance change in my office we had to try out a new practice for Jake's one-year check-up. According to the doctor (and of course his mom & dad) Jake is doing great! He's measuring at about 29" and 20+ pounds. Jake wasn't all that in to sitting still and the nurse didn't seem to be all that concerned with exact numbers. Despite two shots and having to have blood drawn for the first time (and the technician not being able to get a band-aid to stay put) it wasn't too traumatic for Jake. I'm not so sure I can say the same thing. We'll give this new place another try but boy do we miss Melissa and the other folks at Children's Medical Associates!
Friday, we found out that there is a nasty stomach virus going around Northern Virginia. All I can say is that baby throw-up is gross! Jake's exorcism-like vomiting spell kept us in for the night but thankfully by Saturday morning he was fine. I was lucky enough to have an afternoon to myself. Alex and Jake had lunch out with our friend Rick and Jake of course fell asleep in the car on the way home. Alex, mindful of the importance of making sure that Jake had a nap, let him finish his nap in the car while he read his book. So sweet!
Saturday night we were lucky enough to have my cousin, Stephanie, come and watch Jake while we went to hang out with some of our DC/Oregon friends. Steph, who lives in a group house on the Hill, was happy for the quiet and the big screen but disappointed that Jake was asleep when she came over and stayed asleep the whole time we were out. Steph stayed over, so they found plenty of time to play in the morning.
Jake and I went to Gymboree today while daddy had some time off. Today Jake was all about the slides! While once tentative about the whole thing he is now a huge fan!
We like to call the table that they're sitting in the "board table" because the babies always look like they're meeting on something very important. If you can't find Mr. Gorgeous, he's second on the left right next to his friend, another Jake.
