It's been a crazy couple of weeks but we're happy to be here. Alex left on his road trip adventure Wednesday, June 3rd as the movers were packing everything up from Medlock Lane. Jake and I had a couple of extra days in DC until we headed to the Lone Star State.
While Jake and I were hanging around in DC we were lucky enough to stay with Greg, Shana and Spencer Treger. Jake showed his gratitude by getting sick (throw-up sick) for the the first time. Despite this we had a great time with the Treger's and Greg taught Jake the all important fist bump.
We were glad that we stayed in town for the Partnership's kids day. Jake might have been a little young for some of the the activities but it was fun for me to see my former co-workers and Jake loved the sing along with Kevin Brady. Jake's favorites include "Twinkle, Twinkle" and "The Wheels on the Bus".Below Jake tries to hitch a ride on one of Ralph's carts. And in the second picture note the banana that Jake swiped from my co-worker Craig's desk.

On Saturday we hopped a flight to Houston. Jake was pretty good on the flight and did some serious hamming it up when I brought out the camera.

We were happy to land and have Lisa and a very asleep Drew picked us up. It was so fun to hang out with Lisa, Jon, Drew and Baby Nathan and Jessica, Danny and Jonah. The boys had a ton of fun together playing with their trains. We even went to the park to ride on a choo-choo train. Do you see a theme here?We were super excited to finally meet up again with Alex. He came in Sunday and after four days on the road which took him through Atlanta, Tuscaloosa, and Baton Rouge. I thought he might literally take a bite out of Jake he was so excited to see him again.

I think Drew really enjoyed having Jake visit and has since asked his mom when Jake can come visit again. Here Drew helps Jake negotiate the stairs.
On Monday, after breakfast with Uncle Ken and Aunt Loretta and a visit to Alex's grandmothers, we headed to Austin.
Since our stuff wasn't arriving until Wednesday we shacked up in a hotel for a few days which worked out well. Tuesday we ran some errands and got a bit more acclimated to our new city. Did I mention that it is HOT here? It makes me feel a little bit better that it is A) unusually hot for Austin and B) that it is just as hot in DC. The weather did give us a good opportunity to spend some time at the pool. Jake liked it and we'll be signing up for swimming lessons this summer. In addition to spending time in the pool Jake started at his new school this week too. To quote one of his new teachers, "OMG Jake had a great 1st day". Friday was "Splash Day" and man do I wish I could have seen that! Jake is on the older side of his class so his teachers have been amazed by all that he is saying and doing. Even though we know he's brilliant it is quite nice to hear his teachers validate it.
Since the movers came on Wednesday I've been getting the apartment in order as Jake and Alex get used to school and work. There's much more to report on our first weekend in Austin but that will come later. Tomorrow is my first day of work so I'm heading to bed for a good night of sleep.
More from Austin soon!
