Last days in DC

It is hard to believe that we only a week or so left in DC! We've been busy packing up, saying good-bye to friends and enjoying the city.

To recap the last couple of weekends:

We had a nice visit from Zayda and Dorry even though for most of it Jake was wearing his "grumpy pants". On Friday, we had a belated Mother's day dinner at Carlyle for Dorothy and Alex was especially glad to have one last meal at his old favorite restaurant. Then on Saturday, we tried to do a little packing without too much success, so Zayda and Dorry came with me and Jake to the park. Dorry pushed Jake on the swing and he had fun running around the playground. Finally that night, Alex and I got got together with friends for a little going away soiree.

It was really fun and especially nice to have one more visit from Jake's Godmommy, Libby, who happened to be in town that weekend. Speaking of Ms. Reder, she came over on Sunday night to hang out and for a little Jake time.

Then came my last week at the Partnership. It was busy as usual but they had a very nice goodbye for me. As excited as I am about our move and my new job, I'm sad to leave everyone at the Partnership. I am happy that Jake and I will still be in town for the Partnership's kids day next week. He has a lot of friends who are excited to see him!

Who doesn't love a 3-day weekend (even if half was spent packing boxes) and this one was really fun! On Saturday morning we headed down to Eastern Market for one last time. We had breakfast at the famous Lunch Market, bought a few photos of DC and enjoyed being outside with our little family.

Jake and Elmo are ready to go!

Jake and Dada waiting for their food at the Lunch Market!
Checking out the market with Mama!

Jake is studying flowers in school so he loved the flower stand!

That night we met the Garber's for an early dinner at Fireflies in Del Ray. We had a great time but Jake and J.P. (almost 3) really had fun running around the empty restaurant (I mean who eats at 5:30).

Sunday Jake and I went to Gymboree and after a good nap, met up with his Cameron Gymboree friend & neighbor, Cameron, and his mom Ella for some time at the park. The boys were so mellow hanging in their strollers (unheard of for Cameron) that we walked around the lake a few times before finally heading to the park. The two of them together are pretty ridiculous. The highlight for Jake was when Cameron's dog Poochie showed up with Cameron's dad, Michael. It gave Jake the perfect opportunity to say "ruff, ruff, ruff" as much as he wanted. They had fun running around but Jake wasn't too sure of the big green swing.

For the rest of Sunday and Monday, we mostly packed, except with a few nice interruptions. Monday we met our friends Darren, Jamie and little Juliet out for lunch in old town and then headed to Arlington to say our goodbyes to longtime friends Alison and Stuart Barkoff and Alex Hecht and Amy Yenyo. It was quite a different scene then in the old days! We went from 5 before Alex met Amy to a whopping 11! It was fun to see Jonah, Corinna, Chance, Marin and Jake all together. Wish we had taken pictures of that one!

It was a fun, productive and even semi-relaxing weekend. Now we're in packing mode 24/7 until tomorrow when I'm going to Austin for a conference that my new organization is hosting. I know the time will go quickly and before we know it, we'll be on our way. We'll try for one more post before we leave DC but just in case....later y'all!
