Two weeks ago the grandparent formerly known as Grandpa Jerry came to town. The GR sound is a tough one for a toddler to say. So quite quickly he became what sounded something like bubba. I can't exactly say that my dad is really a "Bubba" but now that we're in Texas he thought it fit and of course if that is what Jake wants to call him then he's happy to answer to bubba.
Jake and Bubba had a bunch of fun time together which was wonderful (and much appreciated)for Jake's parents. We went out house hunting, saw a movie and went to a couples brunch hosted by a young Austin group at the JCC. While in Austin, my dad even reconnected with a former student of his from almost 35 years ago!
Then this weekend we had two sets of visitors. Alex's good friend, Alexandra and my favorite twins from Year Course Becky Borak and Nancy Brown.
Alexandra, who Alex knew in D.C. came to visit from her current (but temporary) home of L.A. Since she's headed back to NYC thought she'd take advantadge of her location and come visit our new home. We had a great time with "A" as Jake named her. Despite an insomniac Jake on Friday night and very tired parents, we had a very fun brunch at Kerby Lane and then Alex and Alexandra were off to explore Austin despite the heat.
Alexandra was sweet to get a present for Jake, his first remote control vehicle, a very cool train! Jake also settled in for a story.
Jake and I went to see our other visitors, my favorite twins...Becky and her kids Haiden and Elissa and Nanci and her kids Ian and Hadley. Becky, Nanci and I spent the year between high school and college together in Israel and Alex actually grew up with them in Savannah. In fact Becky and Nanci were part of our first conversation when we met in 2001.
They came to visit Austin to see their sister and her family and I'm so excited that they have a family obligation now that will ensure more visits! We also had the chance to meet them all out for dinner of Friday night. It was a bit chaotic with 6 adults and 7 kids but we managed pretty well. We spent most of Saturday afternoon with Bec and Nanci in the pool at their hotel just catching up and trying to keep an eye on all those kiddies! It was really fun to just hang out and spend some time together. I can't wait for the next visit!
Jake takes a break from the pool for a snack.
Elissa and Jake chillin' out.
Jake and Hadley enjoy a chorus of "The Wheels on the Bus"

It was a very fun weekend and are so thankful for all the visitors. We're looking forward to having more visitors soon (especially after we get a house)!
