Trip to Eugene and a visit from PeaPah!

Earlier this week, Jake and I returned from a great trip to Eugene where we saw members of the Diller and Sacks family and even threw in a Schwartz for good luck. But before we left we had another family visitor, Uncle Phillip. Phillip was in town for the Austin Film Festival and got a few days with Jake before we left for our trip.

Jake hadn't seen Phillip in quite a while but Phillip won Jake over right away by bringing him a train for his new train table. It was a perfect gift as the train was named Stanley, the same as his Zayda. From that day on Phillip was known as Peepah by Jake and now us as well.

Our trip out to Eugene started early on Thursday morning with Alex dropping us off at the airport. The flight to San Francisco was fairly good thanks to a good nap and Sesame Street on the iPhone. The leg from SFO to Eugene on the other hand wasn't quite as easy. Boy was I happy to be wheels down in Eugene. Mimi (my mom, Carole), Great (my grandma, Ruthe) and U-dee (my aunt, Judy) were all there to pick us up. Jake ran to Mimi which was super cute and made Mimi very happy. Jake is very lucky to have a Mimi who runs a preschool because when we got to the house there were all kinds of super fun toys to play with.

On Friday we were excited to go visit Mimi's preschool and to come to shabbat circle at T.B.I Preschool. I was surprised to see the big difference between an almost 2-year old, Jake and the three year (and four but especially the 3's) kids in her school.

Jake had a great time playing with the kids and was excited to sit with Mimi during shabbat circle, singing bim bam and for challah.

During circle time Bubba (my dad, Jerry) and Auntie Rachel came in from the airport. Jake got up and walked right over to Bubba which just like Mimi, made him very happy.

On Friday we also had the chance to visit our Aunt Lois. Jake fell asleep on the way over and woke up rather grumpy but it was great to see Lois.

Saturday Jake, Bubba and I spent some time on the UO campus with obligatory stop at the bookstore to stock up on our Duck gear and Jake also brought home a new friend.

Saturday night we had a great dinner at the Humble Beagle Pub. The pub is run by my friend Ari who I went to Year Course (the year I spent abroad in Israel) with and his wife Anni, a graduate of my mom's preschool and who I used to babysit for! It was a wonderful meal and fun to see them both.

Saturday afternoon was pretty mellow with Jake not napping. Aunt Judy and Mimi try to mellow him out with some time outside.

Sunday morning my mom put on a nice brunch for our Eugene "family" that was so nice. Here Jake hangs with Great while waiting for everyone to come over. Jake did you forget your pants?

Jake loved all the action going on and despite a grumpy mood earlier in the morning perked up once people started arriving. Desperate for Jake to have a nap before the weekends' big event, Rachel and I went for a long walk with Jake. Thankfully, it did the trick!

Sunday night, and the reason we all came to Eugene, my mom was being honored by the Jewish Federation of Eugene for her service to the community as a Jewish educator. She gave a wonderful speech and it was wonderful to see her recognized.

We had a great time in Eugene and although we were excited to go home to Austin and Dada we were sad to leave the family. Mimi took us to the airport early on Monday morning. Jake LOVED the ducks throughout the airport and we had fun looking at the planes as we waited to head home.

We're excited for Halloween this weekend and can't wait to share pictures of Jake in his costume. You'll have to come back to find out what he'll be dressing up as!
