Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!! Alex, Jake and I hope you all have a wonderful 2010 and are excited for the adventures ahead of us!

When I started this blog entry recap it was titled "December Update and Bubba and Mimi come to visit" but now it is the "Happy New Year/How We Spent Our Winter Vacation Update".

We had a nice but fairly low-key Hanukkah. It only took us two nights before we actually got the blessing right but we loved lighting candles with Jake, especially because he was learning about the holiday at school. Jake made a menorah in school which we were excited to use.

Alex and I were both lucky enough to have the last two weeks of the year off and we wanted to make good use of it whether that mean catching up on movies, seeing friends or most importantly catching up on SLEEP!

We felt so lucky that my dad aka Bubba was willing to come and hang with Jake while Alex and I took a couple of days away. Alex needed to go to D.C. for work and I've been missing all of our friends there so I decided to join him over the weekend. My dad had been wanting to come to Austin to see our new house, to hang with me and Alex and mostly to get some good quality time with Jake.

Jake and Bubba invented a fun new game called "train wreck" and after the weekend with Jake I think we have a new product line to market, Bubba's Bubbles!

Unfortunately, the day Bubba came to town I ended up having to take Jake to the doctor. He had croup-like symptoms and it turned out he had an ear infection too, poor little guy. I think that may have gotten Bubba thinking that he wouldn't mind some back-up. So in a very unexpected and very generous move he invited Mimi (my mom) to come and hang with Jake too and bought her a ticket to come to Austin!

I guess only Mimi is allowed in Elmo's World. Mama out, Mimi in!

An extra bubbly bath!
Gee, I wonder who bought the "Baby Bubba" t-shirt?
Good night Mimi and Bubba

Bubba and Jake did great together Friday and Saturday until late Saturday night when Mimi came in. They played, went on walks, went out to breakfast and all around had a fun time. Jake even slept relatively well, for Jake that is. We had planned to come back late Sunday night but we got stuck in the "Holiday Blizzard of 2009" as the media named the weekend storm. Despite the snow we had a great time seeing friends although we did have to cancel two sets of plans. It became less fun on Sunday morning when our flight was canceled. Long story short, we ended up driving 6 1/2 hours to Charlotte and getting back before Jake's bedtime on Monday night. Here is a shot of our good friends Shana and Greg's back patio on Saturday night!

We had a nice time hanging with my mom and dad until Christmas Day before they headed back to Eugene and Berkeley. I'm so thankful our important family events include both my parents together. It is very special to me that Jake can know and even see them together. More times than not he calls them MimiBubba as if it is one word!

The week after X-mas was super relaxing with Jake going to winter camp at the JCC giving Alex and I time to just hang out and do some other things around the house. It was wonderful and we're not particularly looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.

Since the end was nearing of our wonderful time off we've tried to make the most of the last couple of days. We had a mellow but very nice New Year's Eve with Jake celebrating with a special cupcake and Alex and I enjoying a very nice dinner and bottle of champagne. It was perfect!

On New Year's day we all geared up (thanks, Mimi) for the Rose Bowl to watch my beloved Oregon Ducks after an amazing season. Sadly they didn't win the roses but hopefully we'll be back next year!

On Saturday we decided to go downtown and check out the Austin Children's Museum and I'm so glad that we did. It was really fun and Jake loved it, we'll definitely be back!

Since it has been awhile since the last blog update I'm thinking that this might be a good time to institute a monthly update (with absolute exception for special events and extra cuteness that must be shared) instead of the more weekly editions that I've tried to keep up with. So check back in at the end of the month to see what we've been up to!
