The year started off great for me. I wasn't really excited about going back to work so on that first Monday when I went into the office early and there was mysteriously no power I was pretty excited to have to work from home for two days.We were excited to have a quick visit from our D.C. friend Katie Malague. It was a beautiful day and I knew exactly where we needed to take Katie. So Jake and I took Katie to see The Oasis, a pretty mediocre restaurant with an amazing view. Jake fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep on my lap for most of our outing but he did enjoy a look at the view.
Jake and Alex had an unexpected boys weekend when I made an unexpected and sad trip to Chicago for a funeral. My Aunt Florence Schwartz passed away at 94. Just about every visit to Chicago that I can remember included a visit with her. She was at my bat mitzvah, wedding and was there to meet Jake when he made his Chicago debut. Here we (Jake in the picture too) are at my grandma's surprise 85th birthday party the summer of 2007.
After a fairly lazy Sunday morning they headed out to get Jake a haircut. Thankfully we've found the secret to Jake getting a good haircut...a dvd player, elmo and sitting in a cool car!
Later that afternoon Jake's friend Jackie came over to play. Jackie and her dad Kenny we're also having a mom-free weekend so I think both dad's were happy to have something to do for the kids. Not only does Jake let Jackie ride his bike but he gives her a push.
While in Chicago we had a little time for "Great" to do some shopping for Jake. Here Great shows off the special find of the day, Jake in his PJ's the first night I was home and had the nerve to go to pilates and leave Jake before bedtime, and a calmer, gentler Jake enjoying a book in bed. He hasn't worn any other PJs since!.jpg)

Thursday, January 28th was a very special day at our house. Dada also got an IOU for a Georgia football jersey which we're waiting to see the new selection for next season before choosing which one he wants. That night Alex and I went out with friends to celebrate his birthday. We went to a great place called Eddie V's and had a really fun dinner. Jake and Dada mug it up earlier in the month!
We had a slightly belated housewarming and birthday party this past weekend. It was really nice to show off our new house and all that we had done to it. We probably had about 40 folks stop by which was really nice. I especially enjoyed meeting some of Alex's running friends. The marathon is right around the corner and I know that Alex will do awesome!!Here Jake is chillin' before the party starts.
I swore I was going to take pictures but got totally caught up in my hostess duties. Alex captured one picture of Jake taking in the scene and wondering, "who is the dude in the hat".It's been a good start to the year and we're excited for a visit from Bubba (and a few days off and away from Jake) and really excited about Alex's run in the marathon. He's running for my organization, ACTIVE Life Movement. Thanks to all of you who have already made a donation on his behalf. If you're able, please consider making a donation by simply clicking here.
